This is the slogan chosen by the WASM “WHEN SLEEP IS SOUND, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS ABOUND” to celebrate World Sleep Day (WSD) for the eighth consecutive year, on this occasion focused especially, although not exclusively, on the problem of Insomnia. As this year's slogan describes, “When sleep is restful, health and happiness abound.”

Restorative sleep: Breathing correctly, with deep and continuous sleep for the necessary time, will result in quality, restful sleep, “sleep sound”. If this is the case, the next day we will feel rested and alert during our vigil. Otherwise we may suffer from insomnia which will negatively affect all areas of our life (cognitive, physical and emotional).

Health problems: Suffering from insomnia increases the risk of suffering from cardiovascular disorders, cognitive and memory deficits. Insomniac children have learning difficulties and behavioral problems. People with fragmented, non-restorative sleep may have high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and other medical disorders.

Affective disorders: Numerous studies show that people with insomnia suffer more symptoms of anxiety and depression than good sleepers. Poor quality sleep affects our mood and our social and personal relationships. Good sleep favors our own happiness and that of those around us, friends, family, colleagues, and prevents the worsening of the symptoms of many mental illnesses.

Once again this year, the celebration of the DMS organized by the WASM with the motto “When Sleep is Sound, Health and Happiness Abound”, aims to be a wake-up call and an action initiative to make sleep and its alterations known to the entire society. , this year focused especially on insomnia, understood as difficulties falling asleep, waking up during the night or getting up in the morning with the feeling of not having rested enough.
